Rang has its own vocabulary, and some words differ between families and regions. Here are the terms used across Rang Royale, the rules and our guides.

Rang
The trump suit for the round, and also the name of the game itself. The word means "colour". Any card of the Rang beats every card of the other three suits.
Court Piece (Coat Piece)
Another common name for Rang, especially in Pakistan and India. Some players use it for the game as a whole and others for specific local rule sets.
Hokm
A closely related Persian game whose name means "command". It shares the idea of a single caller choosing the trump suit.
Trick
One card played by each of the four players in turn. The highest trump, or the highest card of the led suit if no trump was played, wins the trick.
Lead
The first card played to a trick. The player who won the previous trick leads the next one; the caller leads the first trick of the round.
Led suit
The suit of the card that was led. Every other player must play a card of this suit if they hold one.
Follow suit
To play a card of the led suit. This is compulsory whenever you hold one.
Void
Having no cards left in a particular suit. A player who is void in the led suit may play any card, including a trump.
Cut
Playing a trump on a trick when you cannot follow the led suit. A cut beats every non-trump card in the trick.
Over-trump
Playing a higher trump than one already played to the trick. The highest trump wins.
Discard
Playing a card of a non-trump suit when you cannot follow suit and do not wish to cut. A discard cannot win the trick.
Caller
The player who chooses the Rang for the round. In Rang Royale this is the player next to the dealer, who chooses after seeing their first five cards.
Dealer
The player who deals the round. In Rang Royale a player from the team that lost the previous round deals the next one.
Partner
The player sitting opposite you. Partners form a team and share the tricks they win.
Round
One full deal of thirteen tricks. The team that takes seven or more tricks wins the round. All thirteen tricks are always played.
Match
In Rang Royale, a best-of-three set of rounds. The first team to win two rounds wins the match.
Classic
The Rang Royale mode in which the caller names the trump suit openly after seeing five cards.
Hidden Rang
A mode in which the caller secretly chooses one of their first five cards. Its suit is the trump, revealed only when a player who can't follow suit asks for it or plays a trump, or at the end of the round. The face-down card is set aside: the caller plays from their other 12 cards and can't play it while the Rang is sealed. It goes back into their hand when the Rang is revealed, or is turned up and played automatically if it is their last card.
Blind Rang
A mode in which all thirteen cards are dealt at once with no trump. The first time a player who cannot follow the lead suit plays a different suit (the first cut), that suit becomes the Rang for the rest of the round.
Reveal
In Hidden Rang, the moment the hidden trump card is shown to the whole table. It happens when a player who can't follow suit asks for it or plays a trump, or at the end of the round.
Sealed card
In Hidden Rang, the caller's face-down card while the Rang is still secret. It is kept out of the caller's hand and can't be played until the Rang is revealed; if it is the caller's last card, it is turned up and played automatically.
Master card
The highest card still unplayed in a suit. Once the Ace of a suit has gone, the King becomes the master card, and so on.
Sure winner
A card that will win whenever it is played, such as the highest remaining trump, or the master card of a suit no opponent can cut.
Drawing trumps
Leading trumps to make the opponents play theirs, so your side-suit winners become safe.
Kot (Court)
In many home rules, winning all thirteen tricks in a round, a rare feat that is usually celebrated at the table. Rang Royale has no separate award for it.
Quick Play
The Rang Royale option that seats you at a new table in your chosen mode straight away, filling any empty seats automatically.
Private room
A Rang Royale table you create and share by code or invite link so you can play with friends.
RANG
The free, in-app currency used for match entries and rewards in Rang Royale.
Entry
The RANG taken from each player when a match starts.
Reward
The RANG paid to each player on the winning team: entry back + 20 RANG per trick your team took in the final round.
Extra time
A per-round time bank in Rang Royale that starts automatically when your turn clock reaches zero.
