Frequently Asked Questions

What is Rang Royale?

Rang Royale is a free online version of Rang, the four-player trick-taking card game also known as Court Piece. You can play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, either with Quick Play or in a private room with friends.

Is Rang Royale free?

Yes. The game is free to play and is supported by advertising. RANG is free and there is nothing to buy with real money. Diamonds, used for cosmetic card-back designs in the Card Market, come only from exchanging RANG for now.

What is RANG?

RANG is free, in-app currency used for match entries and rewards. Every new account starts with free RANG, and you can collect more as daily free RANG and from missions. They have no cash value, cannot be bought, and can never be withdrawn or exchanged for money or prizes.

Is there any real money in Rang Royale?

No. Rang Royale is a skill card game played for entertainment. No real money is involved at any point, there are no prizes, and RANG can't be converted into anything outside the game.

Do RANG or diamonds have any value outside the game?

RANG and diamonds are free in-game items with no cash value. They can't be bought back, withdrawn, or exchanged for money or prizes. Rang Royale is a skill card game for entertainment.

Why are accounts for adults only?

Rang Royale accounts are for adults aged 18 and over, and you confirm your age when you sign up.

How many players are needed?

Each table has four seats in two teams of two. With Quick Play, any empty seats are filled automatically so you can start straight away. In a private room, empty seats are filled automatically when the match starts, so the host only needs one friend seated (the host plus one friend is enough) to start.

Can I play a shorter match?

Yes. In the lobby, choose 1 Round or 3 Rounds before you tap Find Match. A 1-round match has half the entry: Classic 100, Hidden 150 and Blind 200 RANG (3 rounds: 200, 300 and 400). The reward works the same way: your entry back plus 20 RANG per trick your team took. In a private room the host picks the length and an entry from 50 to 250 RANG for 1 round. Play again keeps the same length.

What are the rules?

Each player gets 13 cards, a trump suit called the Rang is chosen, and players must follow the led suit when they can. The team that takes 7 or more of the 13 tricks wins the round, and a match is the best of three rounds (or a single round if you choose the 1-round length in the lobby). Our How to Play page covers every detail.

What is the difference between Classic, Hidden Rang and Blind Rang?

They differ in how the trump suit is set. In Classic it is named openly after five cards. In Hidden Rang the caller secretly picks one of their first five cards; its suit is trump, revealed when a player who cannot follow suit asks for it or plays a trump, or at the end of the round. While the Rang is sealed, the face-down card is set aside and the caller can't play it; it goes back into their hand when the Rang is revealed, or is played automatically if it is their last card. In Blind Rang there is no trump until the first player who cannot follow suit plays another suit, which then becomes the Rang. See our guide to Hidden Rang and Blind Rang.

How do entries and rewards work?

When a match starts, each player's entry in RANG is taken. Each player on the winning team gains RANG: entry back + 20 RANG per trick your team took in the final round.

Do I always play against real people?

Not always. If not enough players are online, empty seats are filled by computer-controlled players. In a private room, any seats your friends don't take are filled the same way.

What happens if I leave a match?

If you leave mid-match, it counts as a loss for your team, and the match continues for everyone else. It also leaves your partner short, so please finish the matches you start.

How long do I have for each turn?

Each turn has 30 seconds, and each player also has 30 seconds of extra time per round that starts automatically when the turn clock reaches zero. If all your time runs out, the card you selected is played, or a legal card is played for you, and a timeout penalty applies: you lose 10 RANG for that card (at most 50 RANG per match, and never below a 0 balance).

Are there any fees during a match?

Only optional extras, plus the timeout penalty if your clock runs out. Suit status (cards left in each suit, seats out of a suit, and the Lead and Rang tags) costs 20 RANG to unlock for one match. Each hint costs 10 RANG; asking again on the same turn is free. If the turn passes before your hint is shown, the 10 RANG is refunded. If your clock and extra time run out, you lose 10 RANG for each card played for you, up to 50 RANG per match. Every cost is shown before you choose it and appears in your Wallet history.

How do I play with friends?

Create a private room from the lobby, then share the room code or invite link. Friends who open the link can sign in and take a seat. The host chooses the mode and entry and starts the match.

Do I need to download anything?

No. Rang Royale runs in any modern web browser. You can also add it to your home screen for an app-like experience.

How do I get more RANG?

Collect your daily free RANG, complete daily missions and keep a play streak. RANG is free; there is nothing to buy with real money.

What are diamonds?

Diamonds are a second in-app balance for the Card Market, where you can buy and equip cosmetic card-back designs. For now you get them only by exchanging RANG in your Wallet or the Card Market, at 1,000 RANG for 1 diamond, in whole diamonds. The exchange is one way. Like RANG, diamonds have no cash value and can't be withdrawn, transferred or exchanged back into RANG. Decks never change how a match plays.

Why do I see ads?

Ads keep the game free. They appear on the home page, the guides, the history of Rang and the FAQ, and never during a match. See our Cookies & Ads page for details and choices.

How do I delete my account?

Sign in, then open Account deletion (the link at the bottom of your Profile page, or rangroyale.com/account/delete) and tap Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, RANG and match history.

How do I contact you?

Email rangroyale@gmail.com or see the Contact page. We read every message and aim to reply within a few working days.

How do I play a card?

Tap or click a card to select it: it lifts up and glows gold. Changed your mind? Just tap a different card instead. When you're happy, tap PLAY CARD, or tap the selected card again, to play it. Cards you can't play right now are dimmed and can't be selected. Your turn clock keeps running while you choose, so confirm your card before it runs out.
